LIBE 477: reading Review Blog Post Part C

During my research I found a lot more resources on implementing design thinking through tech education than I thought that there would be. Of course, not all of them fit with my vision, program, and abilities, however I did manage to find eight good sources of information that will influence my teaching moving forward. Three of these sources are academic journals and four are blog based articles written by experts in the field. Some of the sources focus more on pedagogy and the reasoning behind and implementation of design based thinking in the classroom while others gave more practical examples and tasks to bring design thinking to the school. (For Example: A.J. Juliani gave ten specific activities. http://ajjuliani.com/design-thinking-activities/ ) Even though I have already done 3 of the activities he outlines in the web article, it does let me know that I am on the right track. The biggest take away for me from this research so far is not the activities themselves, but how much of the design thinking process takes place before the physical creation of a prototype begins. In previous years I have often jumped straight to the design challenge or task glossing over the early steps of design thinking. Moving forward I would like to do more explicit teaching on the beginning steps of Identifying the problem, brainstorming, designing, and planning. slide_10

A.J. Juliani states these steps in an elementary student friendly manner using the acronym LAUNCH. (L- look, listen, and learn; A- ask a ton of questions; U- understanding the process/problem; N- Navigate ideas; C- Create a prototype, H- Highlight and fix)

  1. Hi, Sorry, I have no idea why it decided to have a white background for some of the text. Also, Every time I try to add the image it gives me a "Failed to upload" error- and I have no idea why.

  2. This was a good overview of your key experiences with your inquiry topic. Your reflection in the beginning of your early expectations, different results and opportunity to reinforce your goals and directions was helpful. As well, the brief discussion and showcasing of a couple of your key resources helpful. A little more of a tour through your results, and why you chose to keep them in your toolbox would be a small improvement.

For your blog formatting, with white background, it is most likely copying any formatting codes from your word processor. Sometimes it is easier to draft / write your blog posts in Blogger, instead of copying from Word, and pasting in, as that can mess up the formatting a little bit.

If you would like, we can schedule a little tutorial session on how best to use blogger and how to format your posts and uplod images. Get in touch!
